How to disassemble an electric hospital bed

But when the patient doesn’t need that electric hospital bed anymore then you have to do something with it to free up space.

Remove the Power Supply & Coil up All the Cables

An electric hospital bed is powered by electricity. Therefore, you need to remove the power supply before you can start working on anything else. Start with removing the plug from the power supply. Make sure that your hands are not wet because you may get electrocuted.

Once you have removed the power supply then start coiling up the cables smoothly and keep them in a safe dry place. Don’t put them near heat or water as it can be dangerous.

Fold It Up (If Possible)

Many electric hospital beds in Malaysia come with a built-in folding function. It means that they have some controls that you can simply use to fold the electric hospital bed and store it somewhere. 

Take the user manual guide of your electric hospital bed and read all the instructions they have provided. Once you have understood everything then follow all those steps one by one to successfully fold the electric hospital bed. 

However, some electric hospital beds cannot be folded. If your electric hospital bed cannot be folded as well then you shouldn’t try to fold it as you may end up damaging or breaking it. In such a case, the solution is to disassemble it.

Remove the Mattress

Next, you have to remove the mattress from the bed and put it in a safe location. Just simply remove the bedspread and then take off the mattress from the bed. Keep it in a dry place to ensure it does not get damaged. Don’t put it close to fire or in a wet & moist place.

Get a Pliers & Remove Wing Nuts

To disassemble an electric hospital bed, you have to remove all the relevant nuts & bolts to disassemble the different parts of the bed. So take a pair of pliers and start removing the wing nuts of the electric hospital bed. 

Since the nuts are very small in size, they can get lost very easily. Therefore, we recommend you store them in a plastic bag or a separate container to avoid any useless inconvenience & headache later.

Remove the Rails

Next, start removing the side rails of the electric hospital bed. Generally, you can do it by unscrewing the nuts that have attached the rail to the electric hospital bed. 

If there are no rail screws on your electric hospital bed then it must have a spring mechanism where you have to push the spring to take off the rail. Just quickly check the user manual guide of your electric hospital bed and follow the method they have given to remove the rails.

Flip the Bed on its Side

Once you have removed the rails, now it’s time to flip the bed on its side so that you can easily perform the rest of the operations.

Don’t flip the bed too roughly as you may end up damaging it. Be relaxed and do everything smoothly.

Remove the Driver Shaft

After flipping the bed on its side, the next step is to remove the driver shaft of the electric hospital bed. You can easily press it and then pull it out from below the frame of the electric hospital bed. It will help you easily unlock the rest of the parts of the bed.

Remove the Coupler of the Bed (From Foot End)

The next thing you have to do is to disassemble the coupler from the foot end only. Removing the foot-end coupler will help you easily remove the footboard. Once you have removed it then move to the next step.

Take the Footboard Off

In the previous step, we removed the coupler at the foot-end, now we will remove the footboard of the electric hospital bed & keep it in a safe place.

Remove the Coupler (From Head End)

Just like the previous two steps where we removed the foot-end coupler to remove the footboard, we’ll do the same in this step as well.

Go to the head-end of the bed and remove the coupler from there as well. After that, move to the next step.

Remove the Head Board

It’s time to repeat things just like we did in the case of the foot end coupler & footboard.

Now we will smoothly remove the headboard of the electric hospital bed & store it in a safe place.

Important Note: 

Different beds have different designs and thus you have to follow different methods to disassemble each one. Some electric hospital beds may have springs at the head & foot end instead of couplers. In such a case, you have to remove the springs to disassemble the electric hospital bed.

Store all the Parts Safely

Once you have successfully disassembled the electric hospital bed, the next step is to secure all the parts and store them in a safe place. 

Make sure you collect all the parts and different nuts and bolts and store them safely. This will prevent them from getting lost & save you from useless worries and discomfort.
